This month, we’re proud to highlight our continued partnership with Mersey Community Hospital in Northwest Tasmania, where a $45 million redevelopment has delivered a modernised CSD and expanded services for the community. Atherton was privileged to support this project with the supply and installation of key sterilizing and decontamination equipment.
We also had the opportunity to connect with peers at the IHEA National Conference, a valuable forum for sharing ideas and strengthening collaboration across our industry.
On the education front, our CSSD Study Days continue to grow in popularity, with record attendance this year. These sessions provide hands-on training, valuable insights, and a behind-the-scenes look at where our world-class sterilisers are made, thanks to everyone who has joined us so far.
Finally, we farewell Ken Simpson, who retires after more than four decades in the field, and warmly welcome Rith Keut into his new role as SA/NT State Account Manager.
Thank you for being part of the Atherton community as we look forward to continuing this journey together.
Mersey Community Hospital is a public healthcare facility located at Latrobe near Devonport in Northwest Tasmania. It serves a vital role in providing medical services to communities across the Northwest. The recent upgrades will enable the hospital to expand its range of services to better meet community needs.
As part of a $45 million redevelopment project, the hospital has modernised its outpatient’s clinic and operating theatre, including the installation of a new Central Sterilizing Department (CSD) to ensure compliance with updated standards. The new CSD has been fully operational since May of this year.
Atherton is proud to have contributed to this development by partnering with Mersey Community Hospital to supply and install two Tiger sterilizers, two Platypus washer disinfectors, one Penguin ultrasonic cleaner, and one Kangaroo drying cabinet. Having worked with Mersey Community Hospital for many years, Atherton is delighted to continue this longstanding relationship.
Special thanks to Tom Carpenter and Laurie Larsen from Mersey Community Hospital, whose dedicated efforts have been instrumental in working alongside Atherton throughout this project.

Atherton was proud to be part of the IHEA National Conference 2025 in May, a cornerstone event for healthcare engineering professionals nationwide.
The conference delivered an engaging mix of thought-provoking sessions and lively discussions with industry leaders, exploring both the latest innovations and the complex challenges facing healthcare infrastructure across Australia.
For Atherton, this was more than just an event, it was an opportunity to strengthen connections, share ideas, and reaffirm our commitment to advancing this vital sector.
Events like these are a reminder of the importance of collaboration in shaping the future of healthcare facilities, and we’re proud to have a voice in the conversation.
If you attended or want to chat about how these insights impact your work, we’d love to connect!
